Imo State Police Hunt for Killer Naval Officer

Imo State Police Command has launched a man-hunt for a naval officer who allegedly killed a serving youth corps member at Awaka area of Owerri on Saturday.

Mr. Amadi Chukwuemeka Princewill, a native of Awaka in Imo State, was allegedly shot dead by the naval officer during a sit out with friends.

A witness said the officer had gone to the same spot with another person said to be a community leader of Ndegbelu community in Awaka.

An argument was said to have ensued and the corps member, who had just returned from a three-week orientation programme, went to inquire what was happening.

“But the naval officer pushed him away and started harassing him. On seeing that his attacker was a uniformed man, Chukwuemeka tried walking away but the naval officer dragged him, beat him up and shot him on the chest,” he said.

The same naval officer allegedly took him to the hospital and when he realised he was dead, he dumped him there and ran away.

Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Andrew Enwerem, said the police were on the trail of the assailant, adding that his unit of service has been identified.

He said, “It is not difficult to track him. We are using inter-agency cooperation and his unit has been identified.”
