FRACON 6:WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
It is on this date 2nd-3rd of November that Jellofgist.com witness a power packed program called FRESH ANOINTING CONFERENCE 6TH Edition(FRACON6) of the diocese of Okigwe South in Imo State.

It is said that growth and development are twin sisters that go peri per sum.
Youthful age is a critical and formative stage that any broken bone in this stage may never be corrected.
It is to this effect that the Rt Rev.D.O.C Onuoha the Lord Bishop of Okigwe South
Rt Rev.D.O.C Onuoha
thought it expedient to flag off the FRACON convocation six(6)years ago to foster youth empowerment and development, hence curtail the menace of youth restiveness within the diocese and beyond.
Fresh Anointing conference 6(FRACON 6) is today being held at St Peter’s Church Umuariam Obowo. Like other editions FRACON6 boast of seasoned technocrats, Academic and business gurus/moguls who has come to impact the youth from the wealth of their knowledge.

It is not just a spiritual gathering, it is the gathering of the eagles. It is an empowerment, skill and talent convention. Talks ranging from skills and vocational areas to personality development.
FRACON is a soul lifting retreat where youths converge to better their lives and become more useful to themselves and nation at large. It is a non denominational gathering powered by OKISOD.An iceing on the cake is that it is all free –accommodation ,transportation and feeding.FRACON6 is here and OKISOD is set Ablaze for CHRIST.

FRACON6 started with an opening service by Rev. Innocent Ezeji,
in his Homily he admonished the youths to dispose their hearts in other to receive the fresh anointing to be different as the theme implies “CALLED TO BE DIFFERENT”.He also prayed them to be earger to acquire new knowledge during the vocational workshops.

FRACON 6 DECLARED OPEN

HIS LORDSHIP RT REV.D.O.C ONUOHA
The FRACON 6 was declared open by HIS LORDSHIP RT REV.D.O.C ONUOHA after extensively reading his welcome address and teaching from the theme. He further admonished every youth to be different in their ways of life.

FIRST TALK BY Lady Dr Mrs Chinyere Nwajiuba

THE ROLE OF VOCATIONAL SKILLS IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT By Lady Dr Mrs Chinyere Nwajiuba

Dr Chinyere Nwajiuba by ultimateuc on Scribd
The Youth- Which Generation?
She classified Youths into two generations Viz;
Millennials (Age 24 – 38) Gen z (13 – 23 )

She focused on the Z GENERATION:
You are a unique generation, That actually require to be different. Unique in the sense that you are the products of globalization. (Uwa ohuru- agburu ohu)

2 billion of them in Africa/30% of the world population (The United Nations World population prospects (2015 Revision) , this group represents 31% of Nigeria’s approximately 60 million youth population, their formative years occurred in the early 2000’s to the early 2010’s when the major socioeconomic trend was the democratization of Nigeria’s institutions and the liberalization of its economy.
The Nigerian new generation grew up amid economic decline in the world markets that marked the great recession, amid not very good experiences of religious insurgence, killings,(Boko Haram) kidnapping , you grew up in an environment where violence, cultism and other social vices in Nigeria are not uncommon phenomena poor education system (poor teachers/ knowledge and skills)

Harsh economic conditions, cultural shifts in social norms, technological advances, and world events (Globalization) which have contributed to shaping your thoughts, values and views, Very different from the previous generation ( 1982, 1970—) attributes/values- connected through digital devices, (digital natives), shaped by social media, like music, self centered, self expressive, and most importantly lazy, lost, dream about being entrepreneur, like money, eat without work(sweet and no sweat) etc

OUR WORRY AND THE UNFOLDING REALITY

Over 36.3million youths in Nigeria’s labour force, out of whom 13.6 million are either underemployed or unemployed ,60% of the Nigeria population is made up young people below the age of 35 years(National Bureau Statistics, 2016).
Average of 1.8 million graduates enter Nigeria’s labour market annually Only about 40% get some form of employment Others become entrepreneurs, while the rest remain unemployed The unemployment situation in Nigeria implies absence of jobs, which is indicated by over 60% unemployed Nigerian youths among whom 51.9% are females and 48.1% are males (NBS, 2012).
Presently, about 300 million are unemployed, Most lack some sort of Competency or skills or vocational education and training(VET) or Entrepreneurship skills (ESD)
Beyond that, the gross mismatch of many degrees, certificates, and diplomas obtained in Nigeria with skill gaps and current demands in the job market is also disturbing.
Focus of the training offered in Universities are not in tune with the demands of the society(making the youths unemployable).

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO BEFORE…?

1. DISCOVER YOUR TALENT(we are born with distinct talents and gifts that set us apart from others)

2.FOLLOW YOUR PASSION
“Ephesians 2:10 –for we are God’s handiwork Created in Christ Jesus to do good works, Which God prepared in advance for us to do”

3.PRAY TO GOD
“He has filled them with skill to perform every work of an engraver and of a designer and of an embroiderer, in blue and in purple and in scarlet material, and in fine linen, and of a weaver, as performers of every work and makers of designs”(Exodus: 35:35)

OUTSTANDING ROLE OF VOCATIONAL SKILL TRAINING(VST) IN NIGERIAN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.

VOCATIONAL SKILLS…
• Through education, training, the creation of employment opportunities, and possible help in starting their own businesses (entrepreneurial training and start-up facilities); VST ought to play the following role in Nigerian national development:

ROLES…

• Provide ample employment opportunities for the teeming unemployed Nigerian youths –be them graduates or school drop-outs! The practical skills acquired through vocational and technical training programmes would enable them function profitably in society, and chart-out a new career path for them.

• Equip the nation with the requisite manpower required for its technological transformation. The technical knowledge, skills and competencies so acquired would increase the pace of technological innovation and/or improvement in the service, and industrial sectors of the national economy to boost service deliveries, facilities maintenance and product development

• Assist Nigeria to maintain its material civilization by enabling individuals to keep pace with the rapidly changing industrial and technological development. In the course of the technological and economic transformation of the country, skills acquired through vocational and technical training programmes, on a massive scale, would boost development in all sectors of the nation’s economy.

CONCLUSION
Considering the increase in the rate of unemployment of Nigerian youth, it is believed that acquisition of vocational skills /entrepreneurship remains the viable option to become self-employed, reduce unemployment, poverty and empower the youths to develop their businesses, pursue their dreams and contribute to overall productive capacity and national economic growth and development.
